Schindler Elevators Chosen For Chile's Tallest Building

Schindler Elevators Chosen For Chile's Tallest Building

Schindler is to supply 109 elevators for the "Costanera Center", a major urban development in the Chilean capital, Santiago, in a contract worth about US$40 million. The company is already supplying 86 escalators and moving walks for the project, in a separate agreement signed in 2008.

Morristown, NJ (PRWEB) June 29, 2010

The contract for the 109 elevators was awarded after work resumed on the Costanera Center project, following a temporary stoppage because of the economic crisis. Schindler (http://www. schindler. com) is the sole supplier of elevators, escalators and moving walks for the complex, which includes a multi-story shopping mall, as well as four office towers, one of which – the Costanera Tower - will be the tallest in South America, at 300 meters. Installation of the Schindler equipment is due to start in 2011.

Double-Deck Elevators Traveling at Seven Meters Per Second
The tallest tower will be equipped with 24 elevators, including 19 with two decks, which serve two floors at the same time and are capable of speeds up to seven meters per second. The elevators will be controlled by Schindler ID, a state-of-the-art traffic management and access-control system. The other three towers will be equipped with Schindler's hall-call destination system, Miconic 10, which groups passengers according to destination, cutting journey times and reducing journeys overall to save energy.

The Costanera Center's developer, Cencosud, is one South America's largest retail groups, with operations in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru. The main Costanera Tower was designed by Cesar Pelli, who is well-known as the architect of Malaysia's Petronas Towers.

Kure Beach: An Affordable Summer Vacation Destination

Kure Beach: An Affordable Summer Vacation Destination

Enjoy Sun, Fun And A Bit Of History, While Keeping Money In Your Wallet

Kure Beach, N. C. (PRWEB) June 25, 2009

The school year has come to a close and the temperature outside continues to rise. The lazy days of summer have arrived. Trying to plan a last-minute summer vacation without breaking the bank, then Kure Beach is the perfect destination.

Kure Beach is a quaint coastal town located on the southern end of Pleasure Island, North Carolina. It is home to miles of uncrowded beaches, a handful of laid back restaurants, and plenty of comfortable places. The New York Times recently featured Kure Beach in their "One Summer, 14 Weekends" article, noting it as one of the best places to travel to this summer.

Kure Beach offers everything from charming beach cottages and motels to condominiums and efficiencies. For families who prefer to stay somewhere a little more private, Kure Beach features many gorgeous vacation homes. Kure Beach was recently listed at number six on the list of the top ten locations for a vacation home on AOL Search.

While Kure Beach is certainly known for its relaxing beaches, it is also known for its fishing. There are plenty of opportunities for surf fishing, bottom fishing, shell fishing and deep-sea fishing. It is home of the Kure Beach Fishing Pier, a 712-foot-long pier, built in 1923, that is the oldest fishing pier on the Atlantic Coast.

A location for families to explore is the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. It's the perfect location for a day in the sun and features a six-mile beach that is home to many types of animals including endangered loggerhead sea turtles. Bring a picnic lunch to spend a day at the ocean and be sure to take a walk on the short trail through the marsh to catch a glimpse of all the fascinating sea creatures.

Looking to cool off? Head inside to the N. C. Aquarium. Located at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, this is one of the most affordable aquariums in the country. Take an aquatic journey from the freshwater streams and swamps into the saltwater-filled ocean. Guests can visit the Cape Fear Conservatory which features freshwater plants and animals and even includes the aquarium's new albino alligator named Luna. Cape Fear Shoals features a 235,000-gallon tank filled with saltwater animals including sharks, eels, and stingrays. Towards the end of their journey, guests can visit the ocean exhibits that feature fascinating creatures from the open ocean. Admission ranges from $5 to $8 and children under age five are admitted free.

For history buffs, take a break from the sun and explore the Fort Fisher State Historic Site & Civil War Museum. Fort Fisher, the largest earthen fort in the South, is the site of the largest land-sea battle of the Civil War and was the site of the largest naval bombardment prior to World War I. Outdoor exhibits include three reconstructed and functional cannons. Throughout the summer, a costumed guide offers tours of the remains of the fort and even conducts a small arms weapons demonstration. This, along with many other locations at Kure Beach, is ADA compliant, making it a fun and accessible place for everyone.

Kure Beach isn't the only great location on Pleasure Island. Just to the north is Carolina Beach, home of the Municipal Marina, featuring offshore fishing excursions and party boats. In Carolina Beach you'll also find three parks, including Carolina Beach State Park with its rare and carnivorous Venus flytraps. Wednesday evenings this summer, the park will be hosting a Sea Turtle Talk presented by the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project. Families can learn about the endangered loggerhead sea turtles that reside on nearby beaches and discover different ways to help protect them.

Be sure to check out the recently renovated boardwalk at Carolina Beach. It features everything from souvenir shops and arcades to ice cream stands and surrey bike rentals. Just steps away from the boardwalk, there are fun rides including a Ferris wheel, Scrambler, Tilt-a-whirl, Bounce House and more.

But the fun doesn't end when the sun goes down. On Thursday nights, families can enjoy free live music on the beach near the boardwalk followed by an exciting fireworks display. On Sunday evenings, sit outside at the Carolina Beach Lake and enjoy the warm breezes and a free, first-run family friendly movie.

Interested in live concerts while on vacation, then Pleasure Island is the place. The Chamber of Commerce will be holding free concerts on the second and fourth Fridays of June, July, and August at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area. Be sure to bring blankets and chairs for the whole family and get ready to dance the night away!
