Re: Five Star award Highlights Move to the West Coast

Squamish/Whistler, BC, Oct 2, 2002 - Nu-Salya Chalet has just been awarded another half star, making itthe only Five Star Bed and Breakfast in the Vancouver-Squamish-Whistler region, and one of only a handful of Five Star Hotels, Inns and B&B's in Canada.

The final half-star, awarded in August by BC Tourism's Certified Rating Advisors means that it meets the national standards of exceptional properties which are among the best in Canada for outstanding facilities, guest services and quality

Provided.

This is not the only recent accolade for what started when Bill and Sue McComish

Moved from downtown Toronto to settle between Vancouver's urban excitement and

Whistler's ski runs to build their dream home. They called it Nu-Salya (My Vision

In Salish) and decided to share it with the world.

In the June edition of Forbes Travel, Nu-Salya was the only Canadian B&B in

Its top 12, chosen from 25,000 facilties, 18,000 in the U. S. and 7,000 in Canada.

Penguin Publishing chose Nusalya for the front cover of the Canadian Bed and

Breakfast Guide 2002/03 edition, a credit to its unique design including a 40-foot high river rock fireplace and some carved wood grizzlies in the garden to greet guests.

The upscale chalet, with three private guest rooms and decorations of native art the McComishes have collected from all over the continent, has also been written up in the Vancouver Sun and Province.

And with all the raves Nu-Salya has been receiving in recent times, Bill McComish

Says the fifth star marks their proudest moment.

"These are not awarded lightly, and there are very few Five Star B&Bs in all of Canada so we are very proud of this accomplishment," he says.

Many people think of B&Bs as simple, homey places and, while this is certainly true of many, McComish says he's been surprised to note the increasing in popularit of upscale B&Bs among tourists to B. C.

To keep up with this trend, he and his wife check out Five Star hotels and inns on any of their travels around North America to see what those facilities have to offer and how Nu-Salya can meet and exceed those standards.

What's next in store for the McComishes?

"For Nu-Salya to be the best known small B&B in B. C." McComish says. And at the rate things are going, that's a dream that shouldn't take too long to come true.
