Imagine spending a day making artisan cheese amid the pristine pastures of a flock of sheep, or harvesting lobster--one of Maine's oldest traditions--aboard a boat sailing the rocky Maine coast. Six of New England's finest inns have partnered to bring you "Fun for Foodies Vacations"--experiences in regional culinary tourism that promise a gastronomic good time this summer!
Kicking off this month with opportunities to take part in the timeless tradition of tapping New England's maple trees and making pure maple syrup, Fun for Foodies Vacations take culinary travel off the tour bus and into the farms, restaurants and kitchens of New England's finest innkeepers, specialty food producers and celebrated chefs.
According to a new report by the Travel Industry Association of America (www. tia. org), 27 million travelers, or 17% of American leisure travelers, engaged in culinary or wine-related activities while traveling within the past three years. The report goes on to say that the future is bright for the culinary traveler market, as the share of U. S. leisure travelers interested in culinary travel in the near future (60%) is significantly larger than those currently engaged.
"Each innkeeper has tapped into the best and most interesting culinary experiences in their respective regions, making each of the Fun for Foodies Vacations a unique opportunity to go behind New England's culinary scene," said Amy Jordan, owner of the Stone Hill Inn in Stowe, Vermont.
