City Ballet of Los Angeles is the most progressive and intriguing new ballet company in Los Angeles utilizing the music of Bach, Sinatra, Villa Lobos, Lenard Bernstein, and The Streets to create tantalizing, smooth, classical movements, nevertheless strong and lyrical.
Even the CompanyÂs stillness has a sense of movement, every breath, step and motion that the dancer takes will carry the audience through an emotional journey. The promise of a fast paced evening that will not only entertain but leave the audience enthralled in the dance.
Robyn Gardenhire, Artistic Director, is a native of Los Angeles and founded the CBLA in 2000, which is a private ballet company. Ms. Gardenhire formerly performed as a company member of the Cleveland Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Mikhail BaryshnikovÂs White Oak Project.
Ms. Gardenhire has traveled throughout the world dancing, teaching and creating new works. CBLA has also established a full scholarship school that not only acts as an outreach program but produces professional dancers. The school is located at 1532 West 11th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015. Robyn runs the full scholarship school and teach youth ages 7-12 in ballet for girls and boys.
Jonathan Sharp, Choreographer, joined the company as a dancer and choreographer. Mr. Sharp has danced with Boston Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet and toured with The Stars of American Ballet Tour. Mr. SharpÂs Broadway credits include ÂRed Shoes, ÂCarousel, ÂThe Rocky Horror Picture Show, Live Ziegfield Follies OF 1936, and ÂThe Vampires.Â
