Author Allan McLeod travels to his Canadian home province to set the stage for his new novel, "Barely Dead" (ISBN 9781847280725). Using the grit and charm of a wealthy ranching region of Alberta, McLeod's passion for exposing the truth is back-dropped by the land he holds close to his heart.
Leading lady Paige Harrington left her influential home in High River, Canada, straight out of high school and never looked back. She had big dreams of becoming a supermodel and with her stunning looks, quickly became an international success. With a model's career defined by the clock, Paige eventually went on to get her journalism degree, becoming a NYC freelance journalist to satisfy her globetrotting lifestyle.
Paige will do just about anything for something she believes in, and upon hearing the news that her best friend was found dead with his death ruled a suicide, suspicion immediately set in. Wally Adams would never have killed himself, and Paige knows this in her heart. While back in High River to attend the funeral, she becomes determined to uncover what really happened to her soul mate.
Old and new friends begin to talk, and Paige soon discovers that Wally had launched a bitter campaign to defeat a hazardous $250 million fertilizer plant, and recent death threats suggested he was getting too close. Following leads that take her to The Garter, a seedy strip club, Paige goes undercover as a stripper to uncover the mountain of secrets that Wally was about to make public.
Paige soon discovers that she may be in over her head as disturbing facts about the construction conglomerate come to light. With the discovery of another murder, this time a young stripper, and the finger pointed at very powerful people, including her father, time becomes her enemy as she races to prevent any more murders, including her own.
Real characters colliding with real issues are McLeod's trademark and he certainly comes through in "Barely Dead." With a propensity to set his novels in places where he has lived and loved, McLeod brings to the table an intuitive understanding of the story he tells. His new novel fuses a true-to-life environmental murder/mystery, with the introduction of his new leading lady; combine that with a little underbelly intrigue, and this novel will have readers breathlessly anticipating the next in the series.
Allan McLeod was born in Duchess, a small southeastern town in Alberta, and has lived and worked in numerous Alberta locations. He moved to New York City in 1970, and his corporate finance industry profession eventually gave way to his writing career. Now living with his wife in Manhattan's Upper West Side, McLeod released his first novel, "Death Spirits" last year, and is busy at work on the second Paige Harrington Mystery novel, "The Praetorian File."
