Pet-Friendly Travel A Hit

Pet-Friendly Travel A Hit

Families with pets are bringing them along on holidays - and the internet helps to alleviate the frustrations of finding appropriate accommodation. Many pet owners are surprised to find there are lodgings available to suit every taste and budget!

Millions of people travel with their pets every year. Pets are undeniably considered a part of the family, and for many, leaving them behind just isn’t an option. Their companionship makes the holiday more enjoyable – and many accommodations are happy to allow them.

“Property owners and managers can ring in extra sales by booking rooms to pet-toting travellers. Some have commented that they didn’t realize how many people travel with their pets,” says Angela Wu, founder of the PET FRIENDLY Canada Directory. “On the other side of the coin, some pet owners aren’t aware that their pets can accompany them on their travels. There’s actually a wide variety of pet-friendly accommodations… it’s just a matter of letting people know who they are.”

A quick search on the internet reveals scores of websites with information on pet travel. However, finding detailed information is more difficult – especially when it comes to Canadian accommodations. Pet travel information is generally spread far and wide across various publications, forcing pet owners into a time-consuming and often frustrating search for appropriate pet-friendly accommodations.

Some people are aware that a few hotel chains accept pets. However, pet owners donÂ’t have to feel restricted to staying in a hotel room if thatÂ’s not the type of accommodation they would normally seek. Some of the other alternatives open to pet owners include budget-friendly motels, upscale hotels, family-friendly resorts, secluded cabins, historic inns, romantic Bed & Breakfasts, ski chalets, and even luxury spas.

Pet owners are advised to book accommodations well in advance. Ask for details on the pet policy and confirm that your pet is welcome to as a guest. Good “petiquette” – that is, a display of good manners from visiting pets and their people – is always appreciated, and helps to ensure that pets continue to be allowed in the future.

The PET FRIENDLY Canada Directory is located on the Internet at www. PetFriendly. ca. Visitors are welcome to browse the free, searchable database of lodgings that accept pets.
