Star Soprano to Shine in the U. S. and Europe - Laura Aikin with Major Performances in Spring 2005, Fall 2006

American soprano Laura AikinÂ’s career continues on an upward trajectory this spring and fall, with much-anticipated appearances in New York, San Francisco, London, Montpellier, Rome, Glyndebourne, Paris and Frankfurt.

Ms. Aikin resumes her busy career barely a month after giving birth to daughter Ginny with San Francisco Symphony, singing Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri conducted by Ingo Metzmacher in February. March sees her as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier at the Metropolitan Opera. Immediately following the month-long engagement in New York, Ms. Aikin appears in Europe with London Philharmonic Orchestra in Fauré Requiem. May brings her to Montpellier, France, where she’ll premiere Reneé Koering’s song cycle with the Montpellier Opera Orchestra.

Summer doesn’t slow down for this multi-tasking career mom – in June alone, she’s in Rome and Lyon, singing Carmina Burana and Henze’s L’Upupa, respectively. Next, Ms. Aikin can be seen in the revived production of Flight by Jonathan Dove at the Glyndebourne Festival 2005 in August.

The 2005-06 season starts in October with an engagement at Opera Lyon, as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, followed by an appearance with Ensemble Intercontemporain in a piece by Birtwistle at Cité de la Musique in Paris. Before the new year, Ms. Aikin sings Konstanze at the Frankfurt Opera.

Looking ahead, Laura Aikin caps off 05-06 with more dates in Berlin, London, Salzburg, Wien and Montpellier. She continues to travel with the baby while taking care of her older boy, Marcello. Originally from Buffalo, New York, she now resides in Milan with her family.
