The fourth annual Toast of Taos Wine Festival (http://www. toastoftaos. com) is scheduled for July 2-11, 2009. This one-of-a-kind culinary wine event showcases some of the nation's top wine makers and the Taos community's best restaurants, local attractions, art galleries and resort hotels. Connoisseurs and foodies alike will enjoy wine tastings, celebrity chef experiences, winemaker dinners, art gallery tours and wine education experiences. This ten day wine event is regarded as one of the most amazing in the nation and is set against the backdrop of the Sangre de Christo Mountains of northern New Mexico. Each event scheduled during the wine festival features special wines and opportunities to meet and speak with the participating wine makers. The Art D'Vine Gallery Tour creates a complete sensory experience by combining the compelling artwork of renowned artists with excellent wines from prominent winemakers. Winemaker dinners range from exquisite gourmet affairs, featuring nationally recognized chefs, to casual patio get-togethers with robust beer and wine.
The Toast of Taos Wine Festival will include a couple of incredible charity auctions featuring fine and rare wine, fine art, lifestyle experiences, exotic travel packages, vintner tours and culinary experiences. The charity auctions are the highlight of the scheduled winemaker dinners and the final gala celebration will be held at the El Monte Sagrado (http://www. elmontesagrado. com) resort. Acclaimed sommelier and charity auctioneer (http://www. dinardoandlordauctioneers. com/content/charity_auctioneer. htm) Tom DiNardo of Washington State will preside over the silent and live auction fundraising events. "I am excited to be part of this terrific wine event and fundraiser. Helping the Holy Cross Hospital Foundation to raise funds in support of their mission is a great honor," said DiNardo.
All proceeds from the Toast of Taos Wine Festival and Southwest Wine Competition benefit the Holy Cross Hospital Foundation (http://www. holycrossfoundation. org) to purchase radiology equipment for Holy Cross Hospital. Sally Trigg, the Director of Holy Cross Foundation, said, "The Holy Cross Hospital Foundation is a nonprofit volunteer organization that raises money to support the hospital in its work improving the health of residents and visitors to Taos County."
The Southwest Wine Competition will be held on June 24-25, 2009 in advance of this year's Toast of Taos Wine Festival. This wine competition will judge wines submitted exclusively from Southwest wine makers from New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma. After two days of wine judging gold, silver, bronze, and Best-of-Class medals are awarded to the wine's creative winemakers. All Toast of Taos Wine Festival attendees will have the opportunity to taste the best wines from the Southwest Wine Competition.
This year's Toast of Taos Wine Festival will be held in conjunction with the Taos community's previously scheduled Summer of Love events occurring May through September 2009. The Summer of Love events celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the filming and subsequent release of the Easy Rider movie shot and edited by then Taos, New Mexico resident actor Dennis Hopper. There will be a variety of art and film shows and other special events to commemorate this special anniversary Taos community (http://taosguide. com) event.
The Toast of Taos Wine Festival is an ideal showcase for the art and cuisine that are unique to the Southwest. "The Toast of Taos is a voyage of discovery held in a breathtaking resort location. Attendees will taste outstanding wines, meet the winemakers, experience wonderful art, meet the artists, and taste some of the best southwest cuisine in the nation," says Sally Trigg.
