In one month since its inception, LitterButt. com has recorded over 700 highway littering offenses throughout the United States.
(PRWEB) July 4, 2003
LitterButt. com has recorded over 700 highway littering offenses in just one month. Over 550 reports come from state of Pennsylvania, a result of a Memorial Day article in the Philadelphia Inquirer and recent write-up in the Reading Eagle.
Partnering states, PA and TX, track down the reported offenders using their license plate and car make/model and send the registered owner a letter outlining the penalties for littering and the environmental impact. Offense recorded in states that do not participate are sent to the governor via email to request that the state join the anti-litter campaign.
LitterButt. com is a web site dedicated to the reduction of highway litter, most commonly cigarette butts, through the use of education, ÂThe World Is Not Your Ashtray bumper-sticker activism and nationwide reporting of those who litter. Registered offenders are transmitted to each State to help build the case for tougher legislation and penalties for those who dispose of garbage on our roadways.
