Portsmouth, NH (PRWEB) March 11, 2006

New Hampshire publisher Douglas Johnson of Live Model Books will attend PMA-University (PMA-U) this May in Washington DC as a new member of the PMA Affiliate, Independent Publishers of New England (www. ipne. org).

Douglas and his wife and business partner, Maureen Johnson, publish art books in Salem, NH. Their two titles include e-book and CD versions and feature photographs and drawings of nude human figures for use by artists who draw, paint, or sculpt. The Johnsons came to publishing from unlikely backgrounds. Maureen is a business manager and management analyst. Douglas was an engineer and has a degree in mathematics. They both have an appreciation of art but it wasn't until Douglas tried his hand at figurative woodcarving that they discovered a need for a good modeling reference book. Not finding a book they liked, they decided to create their own, which inspired the founding of Live Model Books.

With their first hardcover book recently arrived from the printer, Live Model Books will use the PMA-U scholarship to acquire some of the hands-on information they need to get their publishing venture off to a solid start. PMA-U has great success helping guide people through all aspects of running a publishing business-from publishing-specific topics such as editorial development to general-business topics such as finance.

Of the scholarship Douglas said, "I'm thrilled. Maureen and I recognized the value of going to PMA-U, but with our biggest expense (the printing bill) just recently paid, it simply wasn't in the budget this year. We are very grateful to IPNE and PMA for this opportunity to learn directly from the most knowledgeable people in publishing and help us get our business going in the right direction." Art Models Life Nudes for Drawing Painting and Sculpting was recently accepted by PMA's Trade Distribution Committee into the Fall 2006 Trade Distribution Program.

PMA, the Independent Book Publishers Association (www. pma-online. org), offers one scholarship annually to each of its regional affiliates to enable a member to attend PMA-U sessions for free in exchange for reporting back to his or her affiliate organization. Live Model Books also received $500 toward travel expenses and will attend both the dinner for scholarship recipients with the PMA Board of Directors and the Benjamin Franklin Awards ceremony. IPNE welcomes Live Model Books as its first new member of 2006 and recipient of the 2006 PMA-U Scholarship.
