Jo Willacy, Eurotunnel Commercial Director says “Eurotunnel is delighted to offer this early Christmas present. It’s our way of celebrating the 15th anniversary of the commencement of Le Shuttle services through the Channel Tunnel, to thank our customers for their loyalty and to be able to show everyone the fastest and most environmentally friendly way of crossing the Channel by car.”

Construction of the project began in 1987 with history being made on 1st December 1990 when Graham Fagg (UK) shook hands with Philippe Cozette (FR) at the breakthrough in the Service Tunnel.

Since passenger services began in 1994 over 250 million people have travelled through the tunnel including 35 million passenger vehicles and 475,000 pets.

In keeping with the company’s commitment to the environment, carbon emissions were reduced by 45% in 2008. Eurotunnel is also the only cross-Channel operator to have published a carbon footprint review each year since 2006.

The Channel Tunnel (http://www. eurotunnel. com/) is the longest undersea tunnel in the world with the section under the sea is 38km long and in 1996 was nominated as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
